SGB Report to Parents

The school governing body wishes to, via this channel, extend a word of sincere thanks to the grade nine parents. This group of parents were willing to cooperate with the SGB and school management team in connection with matters concerning their grade nine learners.
As SGB we know that the three legs of a partnership between parent, learner and school function as an inseparable whole. It is therefore extremely important that communication between these partners be open, and healthy.
In the light of the above mentioned, the parents contacted the SGB in regarding problems experienced in the subject mathematics in grade nine. After many meetings involving all persons involved, the SGB wishes to report the following:
It is worrying that such a poor average is obtained in Mathematics in grade nine. The SGB and SMT take note of the matter and, in cooperation with all parties, it has been decided to launch actions and projects targeting the improvement of the average.
The SMT, under leadership of the deputy principal and the head of the Mathematics Department, will launch intensive mentorship, guidance and control. Built-in mechanisms, which will be qualitative, investigative and guiding in nature for example integrated quality systems from the department, will be employed to facilitate the process.
Extra classes, tests and parents' evenings will also be used as mechanisms to obtain the improved aims.
The parents' part will be to employ a principle of improved self...self-discipline in the classroom and an increase in homework activity. A close communication system, namely the scripts of the learners, will also be used by parents and teachers to continue to communicate unhindered.

Regards
SGB Chairman

Beheerliggaamgroete
Dr WG Emslie

Report after investigation by department
After the visit by the Department of Education to the school on 11 and 12 April, the following recommendations were made:
The appointment of four ad hoc posts for the learning areas Economical and Management Sciences, Science, Mathematics and Technology.
That there will be a well-trained SGB which understands the role and responsibilities of the SGB.
Implementing a sufficient Code of Conduct for all learners.
A language policy which will benefit both Afrikaans and English speakers.
Defining and determining the school's feeding area.
A campaign driven by the circuit manager to explain the possibility of exemption from school fees.
Guidance by the department towards the correct correlation between policy and practice during the choice of subjects and
        The availability of additional classrooms.

Linked to these suggestions are target dates and personnel responsible for ensuring that these suggestions be implemented.
The SGB will gather shortly to discuss the above mentioned and set up a plan of action.

SGB Regards
DR WG Emslie
